Paul Sander announces candidacy for Lower Kittitas County District Court Judge
This fall Paul Sander will be asking the voters of lower Kittitas County to elect him as District Court Judge. James Hurson, the current judge for Lower Kittitas County District Court, announced earlier this month his intention to not run for re-election in an email to the local bar association.
Sander has been an attorney for 20 years, the past 14 as a deputy prosecutor here in Kittitas County. He is currently a Chief Deputy for Kittitas County with a variety of duties that include supervising the prosecutor's office district court unit as well as prosecuting the county's juvenile cases.
As a criminal prosecutor, Sander has done trials of virtually every kind of case from DUI and Domestic Violence to Rape and Murder. In addition, Sander has had various duties in the civil division of the prosecutor's office including public records, labor relations and child support.
Since 2010 Sander has been Chief Administrative Deputy Prosecutor, which added numerous managerial duties to his existing legal assignments including budget, training and personnel. All of these skills will be applicable to the position of district court judge which is responsible to an administrative staff of (10) and shares supervision over the misdemeanor probation office.
